Olympic Dreams

We had a really fun weekend that maybe sometime I'll get around to blogging about. For now all our thoughts and focus and energy is on the OLYMPICS! Could there be anything better than the Olympics? First of all, how great that there's actually something worth watching and my kids can watch right along with us. Secondly, it's just so thrilling to watch these young super-human people go beyond what should be possible. One of most exciting events to watch is swimming. I love it because it's not subjective, no ornery anti-American judges ruining things, just good old fashioned races. How about that men's relay the other night? There's just no way our last swimmer, Jason Lesack?, should have been able to catch that French swimmer, but he did in the most amazing finish. I LOVE it.

A few nights ago we were watching Michael Phelps obliterate competition and world records and Brennan said, "Christian should have been a swimmer, he's got the perfect build for it." For those who don't know, Christian is my brother who in a swimming race with Brennan managed to scrape his nose on the bottom of the pool. Clearly that was just a little hiccup in what could have been an illustrious swimming career. Now every time we watch Phelps, Brennan says in an irritated tone, "That should have been Christian!". We love Brennan and Christian even if he never wins a gold medal in swimming.

man, this is ruling our lives right now too. Funny, Josh said the same thing that phelps reminded him of chris. But he is also sure that he (josh) missed his calling in life by being the next phelps if only his mom would have put him in lessons earlier, had the right coach,etc...

We're pretty obsessed too! I was mad last night when I had to go to the grocery store instead of watching. Who needs to eat? And don't the Olympics make everyone think, "hmmm, if only i had......."

Chris, sounds like you dropped the ball, big time. Sorry, Brennan.

The Olympics are such a great thing. We have been the same way, it's hard to pull yourself away. It makes you feel patriotic, I love it.

If Bren had been my dad or mom it sounds like he would have seen the potential and gotten me some coaching, rather than encouraging me to enroll at the DATC.

And for the record, I didn't scratched my nose in a "swimming" competition. I scratched it diving into the pool. Get it straight.

We loved that relay too! Rodger and I were jumping around and yelling and Alec was a little worried about us for a while. =)

There really is nothing better than the Olympics. It's so much fun to have going on in the background.

Totally agree, though I am a little bothered by Phelps sometimes- he seems so cocky. I say the same thing about Christian.

I agree! My bum is getting a little tired from sitting on it while watching hours and hours of the Olympics every afternoon and night. And how strange that you think of Christian every time you see Phelps because I think of Collin as well. They both have such swimmers bodies!!! Maybe we should have a swim off between Collin and Christian at the next reunion! That would be fun! For us at least!

we've been watching too. isn't it the greatest thing? the olympics is one of those things that i feel like was truly inspired by God - kind of like Handel's Messiah, you know? and i love your idea of watching it with the kids. i'm going to start doing that.
