Abby entered a Storytelling Festival at her school. There were probably 20ish contestants from all the grades competing. They have to memorize a book or a portion of a book and stand up in front of judges to perform their story in under 5 minutes. They’re supposed to have some movement and can have costumes, etc. Abby wanted to to do it last year but forgot to bring home the form. Her two best friends got 1st and 4th place. She was so sad she missed out so she made sure she made it happen this year. She knew just the book she wanted to do, I checked it out for her and she memorized in it about an hour. Then she practiced all on her own, figured out some actions and all her animation and characterization all by herself. She did it for me a few times and I gave her some tiny little comments like to be louder and and slower, but she honestly did it completely on her own.
This morning was the big day. Abby was the 3rd contestant to go. I was so worried she’d stand up and talk way too fast or softly, but she stood there completely poised and incredibly animated. I was amazed. She nailed it! I didn’t get to hear the others because Joshy was being over-the-top snerty. I called the school later and they told me the good news! Here’s the video:
Way to go, Abby! We love you!
